Lex Mercatoria Fellows

Lex Mercatoria Fellows

The Dallas Insurance Law American Inn of Court created the Lex Mercatoria Fellows in 2025 to recognize persons for their extraordinary dedication to furthering legal scholarship in the area of Insurance Law. Named after the customary law of merchants that helped establish the modern understanding of Insurance Law, Fellows are elected based on their scholarly writings and subject-matter expertise in Insurance Law.

To be considered for election as a Fellow, an individual typically must be licensed for a minimum of fifteen years, have substantial relevant experience, and be considered a subject-matter expert in the field of Insurance Law. Typically, Fellows have published numerous articles and/or books on Insurance Law and given numerous presentations at leading conferences on Insurance Law prior to consideration for election as a Fellow.

Each year the Fellows bestow the Lex Mercatoria Award for Insurance Law and host an annual lecture (which is known as the “Lex Mercatoria Lecture”) at the November meeting of the Dallas Insurance Law American Inn of Court.

To support the annual lecture and award, new Fellows are asked to contribute $2,000 to support the Inn’s Lex Mercatoria Fund. These funds are solely used to support the annual lecture and award. After a Fellow contributes $2,000, there is no further mandatory monetary contribution.
